Technically, DHCP operates through a four-step process called 'DORA': 1. 'Discover' (Client broadcasts to find a server). 2. 'Offer' (Server offers an IP). 3. 'Request' (Client accepts the offer). 4. 'Acknowledge' (Server confirms the lease). DHCP uses UDP ports 67 (server) and 68 (client).
